"Schöpfungsmaschine"
Film installation by Lutz Garmsen / Ursula Helfer 1996
A 16mm projector moves back and forth on rails and projects a
rotating beeing that changes its gender and size. A second
projection shows a conductor conducting without having any
influence on the events.

"Kreisler"
Film installation Lutz Garmsen 1994
A rotating standard-8 projector shows a panned shot of a woman with a boy on a scooter. As the projector and projection move at the same speed, the industrial ruins in the background appear as a stationary panorama while the scooter endlessly circles.
"Lukas kleine Weltmaschine"
Film installation
by Lutz Garmsen / Ursula Helfer 1993
Two film strips with different surfaces are projected onto
each other. The film loops themselves run on towering stands,
which, along with the projectors, are integral parts of the
installation and thus visible to the viewer. In front of the
slide projector's lens moves, like a sector shutter, a maple
leaf. However, it does not move synchronously with the image
motion, as a sector shutter would, but asynchronously. The
lack of optical compensation means that the leaf sometimes
overlaps the projected image. The projection of both film
strips does not necessarily occur simultaneously but is
controlled by a random principle. Through a circuit connected
to the film machines, two toy figures, a drummer clown, and a
former Barbie doll, interact on a small wooden desk. Both are
missing their lower bodies. The doll rotates around its axis
every second, occasionally touching two hanging balls with its
outstretched arms. When these balls happen to collide, the
contact closes, the clown figure begins drumming, and the
films start moving. Thus, a shared projection results in
random and always new combinations of both image motifs,
sometimes as moving images, sometimes as still ones.
